distributioncap replacement
Hi, i've just was replacing the distributioncap, rotorarm and coilleads.
Now when i put the cap on, I find there is a lot of play. Meaning the cap can move easely a few degrees. Is that normal? Can that cause problems whilst driving, since ignition can advance and/or decrease...
thanx,
rinus

There is a slight wiggle, so long as it is engaged in the slot it will be fine, make sure phase cover is not moving and preventing it correctly engaging though.
Of more interest will be the wiggle you can get if the roror arm is loose on the shaft, they always are, just put a single piece of paper, in the centre and over the edge of the shaft and this will get rid of the play.
In normal use the cap won't move due to spring clips holding it.

Testing the future
a moving cap will not change the ignition timing
the only possible problem could be that if the ignition timing is furthest in one way (advanced or retarded) and the cap has moved as far as it can the other way the spark may not be able to jump from the end of the rotor arm to the post on the inside of the distributor cap.
but it won't happen as the rotor arm has a very wide end piece
