Default smoky cossie.....advice please

Right, mate has just got a cossie but its smoking quite badly but only when you come off the throttle. There is no smoke at all on start up or normal driving ......when youve been on boost and lift off only then does it start to smoke a lot then when you go back on the throttle you get a puff too.
I think i can eliminate rings coz it would smoke all the time but not sure if its turbo or valve guides.

Any advice welcome before he spends money on the wrong bits

Valve/guides, what oil are you using ?, if that is too thin like castrol rs it will do this, Silkolene Pro S is the kiddie to have especially with a few miles on it.

my saff has got a new t34 500 intercooler and if you hammer it then let off mine puffs a bit of smoke and you can smell it sometimes in the car i swapped my oil from mobil 1 to millers and it made such an improvement but when i took it for mapping at norris he told me it would be the valve guides
im not that worried and not going to do anything about it until something serious decides to let go
i would try an oil change 1 st mate

its more than just a puff though.....when we backed off it was a constant stream of smoke until we stopped.

I know most cossies smoke a bit no matter what , my old saff did a bit but this is more than just a puff, thats why we want to be sure what the prob is.

10-50 it must be, don't use too thin an oil.
Valve and guide wear is gauranteed on cossies if they have over around 60,000.

i think its millers 10/60 motorsport karl norris reccomended it to me it made such a difference i have done about 3000 miles this summer and with changing the oil and just used the rest of the gallon tub for top ups and not had to get anymore with the mobil 1 i was topping up nearly every trip

If you really want to cut down on oil consumption use a air cooler(stat) instead for the oil.
