Default Need a Trusted Cossie engine builder?

As the title says,we had a bad experience with a well known cossie tuner and after a problematic 8000 miles the engine dropped a valve head.

We need someone trustworthy who can put the engine back to its previous 400bhp spec?

Any suggestions welcome

If it dropped a valve after 8k its hardly the engine builders fault.

what tuner was it so we know who not to recommend?

Never said it was anyones fault.

They basically built this engine below a required standard by using old parts and basic cost cutting.Having to rebuild the whole engine because of oil leaks is hardly what youd expect but the following failure did set alarm bells off.

Im sure these people have a stigma to their reputation by now,i wont have to name them-you will just know!

Decided to rebuild it ourselves,at least then i know exactly whats been done.

The original company who re built the engine for us to 400bhp spec are called SCS-and myself and my assosiates (ex rally drivers) would not recommend them to anyone.

The problems were entirely down to poor workmanship and attention to detail.Below i will try to list the problems that were bestowed upon us:

1) Mapping was incorrect-overfueled initially. Then over fueled subsequently due to a re used ect sensor from the old engine.
2)A reused waterpump failed (they used the old one on a rebuild)Engine over heated briefly.
3)A distributor failed and leaked oil everywhere-re used old part again
4)Cam cover gasket leaked (twice)
5)Crank oil seal leaked,so did the distibutor drive.
6)Cam half moons leaked
7)Cambelt was very slack and had to be replaced after 5k miles (cheap belt)
8)They re used the old cambelt tensioner and was noisey
9)Plenum chamber cover leaked after 3k miles- they had not fitted a gasket of any kind to it
10) A valve head dropped off in to no2 cylinder and destroyed the engine!!
11)Big end bearings were scored.....Even after 6 oil changes and no track work!

These problems accumulated over 8000 miles, which is bad but the customer service is 10 times worse (once you have paid the money)!

This is not meant to sabotage a company name but i thought i owed it to cossie owners.

All the best.

did you have the engine rebuilt, or was it a previous owner of the car/engine ?

That's surprising,
harvey has looked after my car for me for over 2 years an bar a slight overfueling problem had no other problems, but once it developed i phoned them up an they got the car straight back in.

also had Dick at hrd work on a previous car for me an were spot on!

I`ve finally found a trustworthy enginebuilder in norway, EBB Flowtech Power. Currently building my RS500 engine, hope I can post som pictures of the prosess. Everything "inhouse" cnc, flowbench and so on. Attention to detail is unbelivable. His entusiasm for porting of sylinderheads is like no other in norway. Best of all, he knows how to use a calendar, so you get the ordered product when promised!
Located in Stavanger, only a ferrytrip from you guys!

Indeed,i really didnt want to name and shame but the standard of workmanship was sooo looow and the take it or leave it atttude was their other major problem-honestly you get the impression they sit on 20 foot high golden thrones whilst talking to you.

After the engine failed i explained the situation and requested they help us out with a quote for the repair to the engine. After three phone calls asking to call back with a rough idea of a price and what needs to be done they didnt even have the courtesy to ring back or show any interest at all.

They are totally out of the equation now,and the cossie has only done 3k in the last 2 years since i run bmws daily. What more can i say-pics are availible of the engine damage but its hardly makes nice viewing

There are other negative threads on them i have found, one guy who also had similar issues to me oil leaks ect....

i'd recommend doing it yourself, it's really not that difficult.

Find a trusted machine shop to carry out the things you can't do yourself.

you can spend as much time getting it right as you like, and the best part is you know exactly what's going into it.

Thanks for all the suggestions but most cossie specialists want to charge around 5-6k for a rebuild which is fair enough but not good for me-especially in this instance. It will be a winter diy project.

Now i cant decide whether to revert back to a standard-ish spec or go silly with it.

Worst thing was the car was up for sale and had a guy wanting it
