Default Heater not working

Hi - following my last post... have flushed the matrix and it flowed great anyway - loads of clean water came through - both ways. Have been under the dash and all lever movements are moving the lever on the side of the matrix fine - turns about 90 degrees.

Bled system via thermostat housing as suggested too.

Still no heat though

Am sure someone posted a solution here but can't find it I'm afraid

Talking 3dr rs500 btw

Um er anyone any ideas pleeeez

Hi,
Have you good water connections with your matrix ?
Upper connected with tube come from water pump.
Lower connected with modine.

Hi Claude - yes they are connected - though on mine the pump connects to the lower fitting and the upper goes to the oil cooler... then on to the head. The pipes are new samco and both get hot when the engine warms.

I ran water through the matrix both ways and it flowed easily... could the fact that they appear back to front be it?

thanks for responding - much appreciated

Hi,

It is only 2 reasons that you havn't warming :
no hot water through the matrix.
no air through the matrix.

Not so me harty!!
The matrix when opened can be seen, for what a crap design it is.
The end "tank" bit that the pipes go into is just that a tank like area, IF the tubes of the matrix are BLOCKED with sludge etc then no water can get into them, as the only flow is in the tank area of the matrix and out the out area of the matrix, flow NOT occurring THROUGH the matrix.
It SOMETIMES clears the sludge by removing the pipes from matrix(join together) then fill using spare piping with BLEACH overnight, sometimes it works sometimes not.
I use WYNNS COOLING SYSTEM FLUSH, just leave in a few hundred miles NOT for 10 minutes like bottle says, BUT you will have a congealed mess of crap in the expansion bottle to clear out but my god does it work!!
It has not failed me yet, this will clear out the sludge, it will be transported to the expansion tank!!
Failing this it will have to be a NEW matrix, Ł32 last one I bought, easy to do just a bit of stuff to move out of the way first.

Cheers Tab - so water can flow through and do nothing? The car was laid up for 4 years before I got to it - think a new matrix is a good idea - bloomin job though eh?

My water tank is crystal blue clear and I have a new recon block and new rad.. so best go the whole hog! Where did yours come from - Fords??

it's a lot more from fords than Ł32

the matrix has pipes on one side only, and the water can go onto one of the pipes, get to the end, do a complete 180 degree turn, and then come directly out again, not even going throgh the fins of the matrix

start engine
get the water hot
then feel the pipes
one should be hot and the other should be hot as well (the return)
now turn teh fans on so that they blow total hot air and full blast
now feel the pipes
one should be slightly cooler than it's counterpart bceause the heat is coming out of the water (another way to keep the temps down if the car is showing signs of overheating too )

if this ain't happening then it's time for a new matrix

much easier to remove the whole lower dash and then get to it (2 plastic nuts hold teh heater box in place) than it is to just remove one side and struggle to get it past the pedals

Thanks guys - hot water with both pipes - switched them around and no change. Must be a matrix job then. Wish I'd done it when I had all the dash off during the rebuild... at least I know where all the nuts and bolts are!!!

Ta for all the info - all makes sense.

Have a misfire to sort as well now - ho hum
