gunship would be ideal if it had closed loop fuelling as well imo
as it doesn't and fuel consumption (and all the other benefits of closed loop fuelling) is important, it would have to be an MSD chip bought direct.
no point trying to save a few quid on things like that

I would say gunship as well, as my car is better on fuel now than it was with my old collins chip, If your running level 8 I am sure that NMS can keep the closed loop fueling with a gunship chip.

its on a 89 2wd spec saph so guessing it wont have l8 so could work out very costly, new ecu, new chip, closed loop bits and peicies, set up , drive up and drive back from kent.
how does gunship chip work as heard they are usually more powerful than a normal stage 1?

They work by overboosting, they do produce more torque, but are said by some to also produce more failures as well, I have no experience of them, so can't say if it's true, but have seen power charts for them and they are impressive.
Personally I would go MSD, but if wanting eventually all the toys, closed loop, coilpack it might be better to get standalone for more features ?, depends on your wants/wallet, but still go MSD for mapping anyway.
tabetha,

I'd go with MSD as their reputation speaks for itself.
However, if you want somewhere near you could go for an Ahmed Bayjoo stage 1. Mine made 292bhp and 316 lbft on the rollers with this chip. However, I found the customer service at Grove Garage was appauling so good luck if you choose them.

the bad thing i see about the gunship is, do youi think its a good idea to put worn old standard injectors right on the max duty cycle for the big spike in boost? its a good idea in how it works ,but i would never use it because of this reason, imo its a failure just waiting to happen, id much rather run a normall stage 1 ,or just fit a stage 3 kit and run slightly less boost ,with greens running half the max cycle, 100% safer imo, i would never use injectors to the max, its too risky, its almost as bad as using multipliers to pin them right open

i agree with JTECHSAFF - i used to run the t3 turbo with big midrange boost for high torque with green injectors that could easily handle it and then tail off the boost at the top end to preserve the turbo life

try and find a chep t34/5 and go msd stage 3 closed loop
as long as your engine is in good nick it wont cost that much
its what you car was meant for
just tell yourself its all justified with the saved mpg

but once hes got stage 1 hes gonna want stage 3, it happens to us all !!! so going straight to stage 3 is cheaper in the long run !
