Default Siezed engine! Possible causes?

Travelling along a m'way earlier today at 70mph my engine sudenly lost power and there was a metallic clattering sound from the engine followed by a cloud of blue smoke.I immediately pulled over and the engine cut out.The engine then would not crank over.

Imust stress that prior to this all was perfect-no missing or oil pressure problems and all fluid levels checked prior to incident.

Once recovered all plugs removed and 1,3,4 cylinders are ok but No2 plug is stuck in place and the engine apears to be siezed.
About a litre of coolant seems to have gone in to the oil aswell.
I have just started to strip down, but it seems quite serious.

The engine has done 8200 miles since its been pro rebuilt.

Any theorys welcome

.

Was your timing belt still on ok?

I cant see why even if the oil pump failed number 2 spark plug wont come out

Best to get the head of for a look, hope its not too bad but i seriously doubt it

Supposedly a new oil pump and yes its got a new belt on.

Im suspecting a valve head has dropped off but not sure yet,im clutching at straws trying to get opinions but somebody could have an answer or had the same prblem.

Will be taking many pictures so i'll put some up.

Thats why i asked if your timing belt was ok, the only thing i could think of not letting the engine turn is a valve

Ever thought about HYDRAULIC LOCK, whihc would also account for the water consumption, ie head gasket went and slowly stiffled engine as it flooded combustion chamber.

true, but i would say it take abit more then 1 litre of coolent to
hydraulic the motor.

lol my little sisters mitsi evo1 had exactly the same symptoms,
on removel of the head, found it had dropped a valve and snapped the
neck off causing the piston to mash it into the head and yes funny enough
the spark pulg was stuck in that same cylinder and woulndt come out
beacause it to was smashed in.

just as you discribed with your car. really hope for ya that it hasnt done that

if the engine hyrdo'd itself it would have gone out with a big bang

have you tried to spin it with the starter only or have you tried to give it a turn with both the crank bolt and the flywheel?

we had osmeone who had blown the clutch in his car and the bit got caught in the starter and ring gear and the engien wouldn't turn no matter what we tried until the starter came out

This is exactly whats happened, head is a gonner and cracked.
Looks like the exhaust valve head has fell off and it took the other 2 inlets with it and mashed the piston.
Dunno what caused it though ?

oh noes mate really feal for ya, disapointing being a engine
with low miles

the only idea we could come up with for the cause of the failure
was the lifters bleeding out and not working the valves properly.
or broken valve springs. i couldnt really see the valve just
letting go like that would have had to have contact with something to break it off like that.

did the cam belt jump a tooth or anything?

what a shame, it makes hell of a mess, is the bottom end salvagable?

Its got isky springs on there, the springs seem ok.Cambelt is fine.
It did have a tappet noise now and again, hmm.I havent a clue what the engine builders put in there, mabe they used the old valve gear!
Unfortunately i cant blame anyone because the engine is 3 years old.

Someone else came up with valve guide failure which will be verified soon when i get it checked over.
