Default 4x4 Bonnet vent screws

Tried to take my vents out today to get bonnet sprayed for fitting to my car.
The screws just turn, and you can feel the captive bit is uncaptive!!
What is best to do as never seen one off, options are grind the head of the screws of and Sealant the vents in when painted, or just lever very carefully and try to fix captive bit.
I think some numpty has been there before and tightened the things up way too tight!
They are undamaged so don't want to break, I am favouring grinding heads off, what do you all think ?
Thanks
tabetha

Grind or drill 'em carefully Tab, dont see any other option really. Once they are out there are a number of ways the threaded receivers can be removed and put back in - so you will still be able to take them out when you need to eh?

As a plan B you could try to drill a tiny hole and pin the threaded receiever to stop it moving - managed that once with a similar problem???

This might daft but if the bonnet is still on the car don't forget to cover the engine bay with a sheet or something similiar to stop/catch any swarf.

I was going to stick them in with Loctite 5910, beleive me they will not budge, that is what I amusing for the two whistles on the car on bumper.
I will make a screw type fixing if I can, as I perfer this.

i had the same problem. grinded the heads off the screws, then drilled the brass fittings out, then just used self tapping screws (stainless) to re fit the vents

the bolts are really short and the plastic might melt if you try and drill them out

and gluing them in will not hold them in place for long either as i've distoretd mine when they were hot enough to leave fingerprints in the paint

The whistles are DEER scarers, saves a lot of Hassle for £5 a pair, and they are very small and discreet.
They work exceptionally well, at a pitch we(humans) can't hear but animals(most) can hear them, works for PIGEONS/RABBITS as well, I have been told they work for tigers as well, and I must say I have yet to see a tiger on the high street so they must be very very effective!!
