Default 4x4 SAPPHIRE COSSIE FUEL TANK AND SENDER

I was thinking of replacing my fuel tank or getting it powdercoated possibly.l can get a new fuel tank but not a genuine Ford item.Do Ford still stock fuel tanks for my vehicle do u think?Another thing is that my petrol warning light doesn't come on the dash.Do u think the sender is not working properly?Having said that the fuel guage seems fine but no low fuel warning light. Can I get a fuel tank sender seperate from Ford or will the sender only come with a Ford tank?Hope u can help.Thanks.Lee.

Check the bulb/circuit first as may just be something simple.
You can buy seperate senders from mthe tanks.

Default COSSIE 4X4 TANK AND SENDER

Tab,if I buy a new tank then it will make no difference as I will have to purchase a new sender unit seperate is that what u mean?
The sender is not inside the tank then?If the sender is seperate then I will have 2 contact my local dealer 2 see if the part is still available. All I'm concerned about is if I change the tank for an aftermarket one and there's no sender and if Ford don't stock them anymore then it's a waste of time me changing the tank I reckon. What do u think?I have purchased a new fuel pump bracket and going to get a new fuel tank strap, get them powdercoated to stop the new parts rusting and put new parts on.
Thanks.Lee.

No what I mean is it is rare for the senders to act up like this.
You want to get the circuit tested first, there will be a separate wire that feeds the low fuel light direct from the sender find it in the manual, you may find it simply has a break in the wire, so fix break.
You do not say the bulb has been checked, could even be that.
I just don't want you to spend money on a sender for it to be something else and an easy fix that's all.
I have never bought a tank from ford but the ones(2) that I have bought have come WITHOUT SENDERS, which is what I presume to be normal.
Senders are separate but fit inside the tank to measure the level of fuel with a float on the end of an arm, the other end of the arm sweeps a variable resistance track, so giving a reading at your gauge, the low fuel bit is just a simple wire bridge stuck on same track, very reliable normally.

oh yes - if you are going to fit a new tank, be prepared for the original bolts to be a nightmare to remove. Buy yourself some new nut plates beforehand (part number 6767592 x3 at about Ł1 each), some new bolts (M8 x something like 30mm?), and if you can stretch to it, a new tank strap (so you can bend/snap the old one getting it off without worrying about it).

Default COSSIE FUEL TANK AND SENDER

Jon,thanks for the part number, what about the part number for the bolts??
Yes I am expecting the bolts 2 be a nightmare of a job.I won't be doing it myself as I'm hoping 2 take it 2 Moorland Classic Cars as I have just ordered a new fuel tank strap and a new fuel pump bracket,so they can do the whole job of tank, tank strap and pump bracket all together.
Thanks.Lee.

Sorry Lee - I don't know the part numbers for the bolts - I was taking a guess at the length from when I did mine.

A classic car place will no doubt have a selectin of stainless nuts bolts, so will be ok.
I always use M4 stainless, nothjing to do with size but grade of stainless, M2 + M4 are MARINE GRADE so have way better corrosion/resistance to everything than normal, but are pricey, and I still swamp the with coppaslip or Loctite 5910, they never seize!!
