Default won't start

Got my car mapped by Ahmed two weeks ago and ran perfectly, then last week it started coughing and spluttering but only when warm, ran fine for first 15mins. I was going to take it back to him to have a look at, but now it won't start at all. First thing i done was to check the spark, i took the coil lead off from the dis and held it near an earth, when i turned the ignition on it sparked once, but when cranking no spark at all. I have just put on a new group a coil and ignition amplifier and it is still the same. The phase sensor and crank sensor are only 6 months old and were gapped when tuned. Any sugestions please.

have u done the basic checks .

have u checked the wireing for the ignition amplifer and coil . use a volt meter to check the coil voltage which should be 0.8 me thinks not 100% sure as cannot put me hand on the manuel as it is at home .

also double check crank sensor and phase sensor are fitted correctly
and gap should be 1ml from the crank

workshop manuel is a good investment which helped us a lot

will have a look at ours and post later

Hi again, I replaced the crank senser tonight and tried again but still no spark. I tried disconnecting the phase sensor multiplug and re-connecting it and still no joy, I then disconnected the TPS plug and tried it with it disconnected and the coil lead sparked constantly when cranked. I then pluged it in and tried it and no spark so I thought it could be the TPS switch, tried again disconnected and no spark again? This could just be a coincidence and perhaps I have a wiring fault somewhere and as I unpluged the TPS a faulty or broken wire was disturbed ie the phase sensor or crank sensor wires?

Had a similar prob and it was the phase sensor wiring

with ignition on rotate crank when the lug passes crank sensor it should activate fuel pump if so then your cps is ok

Try getting a friend to help turn the engine over on starter while someone does a wiggle test on particularly the CPS connector which should be gapped at 0.6- 1.0mm, tbh it will work down to 0.1mm!
As said listen for fuel pump prime as this show the CPS as CLEAN SIGNAL.
It is normally the CONNECTOR on the cps that plays up more than the sensor itself, you can buy AMP connectors as ford use new about Ł3 to connect to dizzy cps etc.
This might sound odd, but grab the wires at the underside of the fuse box, and move them as some suffer broken wires here, and it MAY spring into life!!
CTS does not have the ability to stop spark generation

Sorted!! Turned out it was faulty wiring. It was the phase sensor and the cps wiring, it had corroded and disintergrated inside, replaced the bad wire for now and it is running fine, think I might buy a complete new new loom as the rest of it dosn't look too good either, but at least it's running!!!

Go on POLEVOLT.CO.UK there you can purchase new AMP connectors as used on oe stuff such as dizzy, cps etc.
The older phase sensors have two brown wires that go flaky new ones are 1 red 1 blue much better insualtion that does not flake off.
