im thinking of fitting coilovers to my 3 dr cosworth . im wondering if i have to strengthen the rear turrets as they dont seen to hold any weight due to the spring not being in the turret .

I've had coilovers on various sierras and never done it yet, and never had a problem.
Unless you are rallying it(?) I would say it is not needed.
Just be aware you may have to bash the area around the coilover where it is vertical on the back as some touch the body, some do, some don't .

A lot of people say you need strengthening, but so far I have not been able to locate ANYONE who know of a specific car that`s had a problem with strenght of the turrets using coilovers.

Mines had a lot of track and fast road use without any apparent hassle - it does have a brace fitted though. Cheap enough from what I can gather and doesn't get in the way too much - see pic mate

And a rear strut brace which is a defintite must can be made from a length of sqaure tubing, it is what I did and just drill a hole in each end.
