200 block with a 205 motor questions
i had recently acquired a 3 door cossie. i am suspecting that the motor needs a rebuild due to blowing oil out of the breather. i suspect rings need to be replaced so mighta s well replace bearings and seals too.
anyway, my question is, if the block is screwed and i want a new block rather than bore out the stock 205, is the 200 block a direct replacement? is there anything else i would have to change?

no probs with over boring the 205 if its in good order anyway doubt you will find a new 200 block anyway so youll need to buy a secondhand one then that means a rebore to suit the pistons . and there is no benifit in 200 block unless you really need to go long stud as the bottom of the block is thicker but if your under 450bhp then the 205 is really ok

this is good stuff, keep it coming. i've owned and worked on my merkur for nearly ten years so i know the ins and outs of the common items between it and the cossie, but i am still a little week on the yb specific stuff. thanks.
ok, so i know the 4x4 pistons are offset a little to eliminate the inherent piston slap in the early cossie motors. so, can i use the 4x4 pistons in the 205 block with the same results or do i have to have a 200 block to go along with them?
btw, i am sorry if this stuff haas been covered before, i did a search but there were so many results i couldn't wade through them all.

This will also lower the comp ratio a bit as well
Steve.
