Default Oil leaks from too high boost pressure?, Please help :)

Hello from wet and miserable New Zealand chaps

I'm having some trouble with oil leaking from my newly replaced Cam cover gasket (rocker cover gasket) and also from my, Cam seals, Half Moon seals and O-rings.

In March I had a new T34 fitted along with brand new cam cover gasket, cam seals, half moons and o-rings as they were leaking.
With the new Turbo fitted and the car run up on the dyno with a Norris Motorsport chip roughly written for my 2WD Sapphire, the boost was increased to 26 psi. The fitting instructions that came with the chip reccomended the boost be set to 27 psi peak with Bosch 803 injectors.
The tuner here in New Zealand said I should go more than 26 psi peak as his dyno read-outs were not good above 26psi.

So with the car all set-up I went to my first trackday for the year and had a great day out on the track, no dramas.
The next trackday I went to was a few weeks later and after afew laps and coming into the pits and popping the bonnet I noticed a fair amount (no tonnes) of oil making its way from my cam cover and cams.

Can any of you tell me if this is normal for Sapphires running 26 psi peak boost?.
I want to fix the leaks as it's creating quite a pool of oil on my garage floor... but I don't want to go out and buy another brand new Cometic cam cover gasket, Cam seals etc and have it leak straight away like it has just done.
I do have a Bailey breather system fitted with a hose coming from the top rear of my cam cover.
Any help or advice would be appreciated,

Cheers... Ollie

how is the breather plumbed in ?

was sealer used before the front cam caps were fitted, and around the ends of the half moon seals ?

Cometic Cam cover gaskets are known for failing around the front by the half moons, i never had a problem with my standard ford one. Having said that i have just fitted a cometic one as it came in my gasket kit. I just used some sealent along the front edge and under the half moons and it hasn't leaked yet.

Hello chaps, cheers for the responses.
Yes, sealant was used around the base of the half moons.
I don't recall my mechanic torqueing the cam cover back down though.
I think he just guessed how tight he did them up.
It's a right pain as when I used to run 18psi of boost on my old T3, there was not a drop of oil in sight.
I have wound the boost back to about 24 to take a little pressure of everything but it still leaks
The picture below should show how my breather is plumbed in. Its the standard way everyone does it I imagine as we followed the bailey diagram.

Is there any other type of uprated breather system I can used to cope with the high boost or better quality half moons, cam seal and o-rings I could be using. I really want to fix the leaks but I can't be arsed if it's just going to start leaking again

Cheers,

Ollie.

after fitting the cam seals and half moons, clean the area off with brake cleaner and put a layer of sealant all around the area. i used a sealant from loctite containing copper and it was brilliant

Cheers for the help so far lads.

So is it safe to conclude that.......

- The breather system I have is more than up to the job of 26psi boost?.
- The generic o-rings, half moons and cam seals are fine for the job (ie. I don't need to find some better quality ones?)

All I need to do is use a heap more sealant than I have been and maybe torque the cam cover bolts down.
Is this a common problem among high'ish boost Sapphires?
I hope this sorts out my oil leak

Just a thought - cant find the diagram to hand (its on another post here somewhere) but some of the big boost works cars actually vented from the sump and not the cam cover as it relieved the pressure more effectively - I'll try and find a pic mate.

Cheers,

Andy
