Default Temp problem with 2wd Saph

Right all started the other day been out in the car temp was fine never really past half way on the gauge got home and parked up with engine running for a fer mins. all of a sudden the temp gauge shot up so turned engine straight off as i did this steam came out the water bottle

looked under bonnet and i had a split hose got a new hose problem solved or so i thought

filled back up with water etc and started her up all fine left running for bout 10mins still fine temp gauge fine etc thought i would drive round the block got to the end of the road and temp gauge went off the scale and when i say off the scale i mean off the scale

Turned engine off and it stayed there after a few mins the gauge drops well past the lowest mark

Checked under bonnet wasnt really hot and water was fairly cool ?? no sign of overheating

anyone any ideas as i dont wanna drive it gauge was working fine before the split hose episode

any help would be great

The temp gauge wire is shorting out onto the body giving a false reading, had the same with mine. I cut the end of and crimped a 'BLUE' bullet connector onto the wire, works fine. Worth replacing the switch while your there, be carefull as they can snap off !!!

you might have an air lock as that would cause a false reading on the gauge
