no other sierra has the same beam as a 2wd cossie

i think the beam came from the granada though, but the semi trailing arms are different and unique as the camber is specific to cossies

yes you were right about the 4x4 beams being different they were made to take a smaller diff for starters.

the semi trailing arms may be different due to the camber at the lower ride height though - i don't know

if i look from the rear of the car the drivers side wheel is vertical and seems straight but if you look at the passenges side it seems to stick out at the bottom and in at the top as if its tipping inwards at the top cheers

My car had that when i just got it, i thought it might be the trailing arm bushes but a full rear beam with arms and polly bushes came up and i bought that instead, i was told the arms can get weak through time and was probably them, whatever it is i no when i changed the beam and arms it was away so its one of them

I dont think you can tell by looking at it, i bought mine from a guy on here, he gave me the beam and arms which were freshly powder coated and fitted with new polly bushes, he also gave me brand new drop links and a brand new hand brake cable, the arms also had the hubs left on too, oh and he gave me 2 brand new wheel bearings, all this delivered to my door on a pallet for Ł270

They are VERY WEAK from the point of view of sideways(kerb) knocks, ie it does not take much to bend them.
Why not just get a geometry check done it will soon tell you if something is out, can't see it being the arms as these are strong.
As for whether it is the same as others I would check the part numbers at FORD this would tell you.
I thiught all the geomtry was the same on all beams(sierra) but just different diff width brackets.

i think the geometry of the beams are the same, but the angle at which the hub is welded to the arms would be different to give the correct camber etc for the lowered ride height of the cossie

I don't know but have always assumed that it is BECAUSE of the lower ride height the camber increases anyway, as they are SEMI trailing arms so more camber the lower they are.

I had a similar problem on my saff but my wheel was toeing out too, went to North Yorkshire RS spares and got an arm and beam for Ł100, fitted some poly bushes and its fine now

Had a look at the old beam and arm and couldn't see anything obvious but it was definately not right.

that's right, but toe also changes

i imagine that similar settings for camber and toe would be wanted on the cossie models as base models. but as they run shorter springs and are lower, those settings would be changed, meaning that different semi trailing arms would be needed with the hub mounting flange welded at a different angle to get back to where they want to be.

i don't know for sure, but i'm sure i read it in the manual that the cossie rear beam is standard scorpio, but with unique arms

page 63 says in full:

2. Rear Axle and Suspension

The following components have been carried over from Scorpio:

1 = 7.5" rear axle assembly with viscous limited-slip differential. The ratio, 3.64 : 1, is special to the Sierra RS Cosworth

2 = Rear axle crossmember

3 = Fastening - rear axle assy to crossmember

The following components have been modified in comparison to the Sierra:

4 = Rear axle shafts

5 = Driveshaft stubs

6 = Lower suspension arm

7 = Shock absorbers (as XR 4 x 4)

8 = Coil springs

9 = Stabiliser assembly (as XR 4 x 4)[/b]
hope that helps
