Default Misfire at 3500

I have a consistent misfire at around the 3500 RPM mark on my Sapphire Cosworth track car. A cough and a splutter, nothing more. It hesitates then keeps going.

I'm not too worried about it but I think the car is slightly overfuelling too. I was going to investigate the CPU to see what chip is in there but I thnk it's standard. The engine is standard 2WD with turbo restrictor. I have just changed the leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm and spark plugs.

Any suggestions as to what to check next? I thought I'd check all the connectors carefully but if you have suggestions as to what the likely contendors will be I'll start there.

Thanks all.

Charlie

PS. First track day booked at Brands Hatch on 3 July. So far I have: fitted new driver and passenger seat, new harnesses, changed oil, filter, changed brake fluid, fitted new plugs, leads, rotor, dizzy cap, fitted 16 X7s with wets.

Set plug gaps to 0.6mm, then fit group a coil, as the oe ford one is crap.
Next do the wiggle test on the connections particualrly the CPS CONNECTOR.
Check your CO you want around 2-2.5% CO at idle, look at chip to see what it is as this could be a bad one.
As it is a track car I would without doubt get a fuelling check done under load.

Thanks Tabetha. How do I check the CO level?

And I guess the only way to get a fuelling check under load is to take it to a rolling road to have it mapped? Something I have been considering but isn't in the plan at the moment.

Fuelling check under load must be just that ie on the rollers or live map, as it is track car a live map is out of the question, so rolling road will work ok.
A decent operator will pinpoint what is not working right so long as it does misfire when on the rollers, I was having a look around a 500bhp+ cossie on THROTTLE BODIES yesterday, looked very nice it did, was ion for set up mapping etc, that too is a track car from surrey, engine built by ?, sorry can't say, not allowed as owner does not want publicity.

Thanks Tabetha. Any suggestions as to where I should take it? Can is in Surbiton, Surrey. Will travel within reason but would like a recommendation of someone who can do a good honest job.

And yes, the misfire is consistent so will show up under any condition.

I assume it's still on std ecu ?
I am noit familiar with that area I'm afraid but have heard good things about the new place next to POWER ENGINEERING, but can't remember the name, sorry.
Do you have a car trailer ?, if so it would be better to travel as far as necessary, my geography is crap but can recommend NMS, MSD to name a few.

Just came across Grove Garage on a Google search. Yes, car is on a trailer so can travel. I'll do some more research and make some calls tomorrow.

Thanks for your help on this.

I think it's on standard ECU. I'll check next time I work on the car - it's on my list of things to do.
