Default Saff Cos 2wd rear brake calipers same as XR4X4?

Hi,

I've done a search on this and can't find an answer. My Saff's rear calipers are beginning to stick a bit, so could do with replacement.

I also have a kit car that's currently running XR4X4 rear brakes. A quick visual inspection would suggest that the calipers may be the same, just mounted in different positions and on opposite sides of the car. If this were the case, I'd put these on my Saff and buy some lightweight ally calipers for the kit car.

Can anyone answer this one for me?

Thanks in advance

Kurt

different calipers on the granny cos, same calipers as the 4wd cars them
the 2wd ones are the same as on the back end of any normal sierra/granada (other tha the granny estate which also used vented rears)

Hi tabetha. On my kit the calipers are mounted on the trailing edge of the disc, so they appear 'upside down' when compared with the Saff (so that the bleed nipple is at the top).

I've now realised it's my kit car design that forces the change - nothing to do with a difference between Cosworth and XR mounting.

Another option would be for me to change the Saff to 4wd rear brakes with vented discs. Has anyone done this and if so is it a worthwhile upgrade?

Cheers

Vented is only differnce apart from calipers being that bit wider of course, can't see that you would need it on a kit car, and they are still the mounted the same way.

Sorry tabetha - I meant are the vented rears a worthwhile upgrade for the Sapphire, not for the kit car.

If I did choose this option, the kit car would keep its existing calipers.

Defo for a sapph, as they are a bit plump!!
Mind you I was having an argument with a nob yesterday as he said his mini was so much lighter than my cos that my 288bhp would not be as fast as his 170bhp.
My car weighs 1230KG, his 1205KG, he thinks 25KG is worth 118 bhp!!
I was amazed at just how heavy his car was to be honest.

the calipers have got to be the way that they are on the sierrea as the handbrake won't work otherwise

if they were mounted fron or rear then you can swap them about but the go on the top unles you have a seperate handbrake caliper

and the vented discs/calipers are much better, and they just swap directly over with no other mods on the cossie equipeed cars

Cheers guys - I think I'll check out the 4wd vented option. I have a Ring trip planned for June, so they might come in handy...
