Hi,

This info was on first one edition of "Technician Guide Ford Sierra RS Cosworth"
But, a Ford Campaign explain and change this procedure.
(Campagn C6CZ761 on june 1, 1987)
New procedure recommanded was as Cossiedavedree said.

This procedure is only with Ford OE head bolt. Not with ARP or with 12.9 bolt specification.

Regards.

Are the torque settings different if a grp a YB0611 headgasket is placed with Ford bolds?

And is there a differents if its a 4x4 (200) block?

I am at the moment changing the headgasket also so I like to know too.

NO head gasket and block/head type make no difference as far as I can tell.

You can use FORD HEAD bolts but ARP would be better, DO NOT USE THE ONES THAT CAME OUT, do not reuse, though I know others that have reused them as they have on zetecs!!
There seems to be a difference of opinion on the headbolt torques, so doing a bit of digging on this.

Get a sierra pinto manual and use the same loosening tightening sequence.
NO warming of engine if it was it would blow as it is not tight yet!!

Just to add to the confusion these figures are taken from the Cosworth workshop manual;

3 dr & 2wd Sapphire

Stage 1: 20 - 25 Nm
Stage 2: 45 - 50 Nm
Stage 3: rotate a further 170 to 180 degrees

4wd Sapphire & Escort (large turbo)

Stage 1: 45 - 50 Nm
Stage 2: rotate a further 180 degrees + or - 10
Stage 3: check for 110 Nm

Escort (small turbo)

Stage 1: 47 Nm
Stage 2: rotate a further 180 degrees

All figures are for oiled bolts.

I think the later figures wouyld be safer as they hopefully would reflect any misjudgement on the original settings ?
I always check for final torque what ever ford say, but then I use ARP.

I was advised for a combination of 2WD/4x4 settings which I applied on my new headgasket:

Stage 1: 20 - 25 Nm
Stage 2: 45 - 50 Nm
Stage 3: rotate a further 180 degrees in 2 steps of 90 degrees
Stage 4: finally check for 110 Nm
