Not 100% sure but thought the 4wd diff was 1/2" narrower at 7", as opposed to 7 1/2" for 2wd ?

Correct

Also driveshafts/diff output flanges are bigger on 2wd,soz can't remember sizes

2wd ones are 7.5inch and the 4wd ones are 7 inchers
plus the 2wd output flanges and driveshafts and hub flanges are bigger (108mm) than the 4wd itrems (100mm)
the 2wd ones also came with T45 torx bolts to hold the driveshafts in place whereas the 4wd ones used T40's, but later on ford only supplied T45's as replacements so perhaps not such a good reference point

thats great cheers lads.i assume the 4wd rear diff is an lsd unit as well?
are both units interchangeable,i.e. can i fit a 2wd lsd into a 4wd rear end,are the mounting points etc the same?

I think they most likely used the same beam, and spacers to suit narrower diff, just measure it before anything else, can't see them tooling up for 1/2" as this is not big!!
