What could be causing my smoke its ok when driving but when it sits idleing it starts to smoke and gets worse

sounds like the turbo to me mate

thats what i 4t but i took the intercooler pipe off an it still done it,


and now i found out my head is lifting underboost. but been told that wouldnt be it as that would make it smoke underboost

I've been having the same problem with my saff, mine was a cracked head, it was fine when driving but smoked heavily when idling, fitted another head and its fine now. Are you losing any coolant?

yes i am always having to top it up.


how much about is a new head??? i did have mine rebuilt an presure checked but i droped it on the way home

My old head was pressure tested and skimmed too, tested ok, obviously wasnt though!
I know somene who's selling a 2wd head (it would need pressure testing etc.) i can ask how much if you're interested?
It would be worth taking your head off to have it tested first though, it maybe the head gasket or block, not the head.

sometimes cossie paranoia can cause it , very common !

But other than that turbo head gasket ?

can i take the turbo off block the water an oil pipe an start it an let it idle an see if smoke comes out the engine?????? then if not ill no its the turbo i no it will be loud but its only for a few min an only on idle??

Does your car start with a misfire in the mornings?
The symptoms you're describing sound just like the problems i've been having thats all and it was a cracked head on mine.
What colour smoke is it?

took my turbo off an it was still smokin out of the manafold so i now have took my head of.


if i get them to pressure test it will it show if its craked???


anybody now a good place to take it im in birmingham.

i have took my head and was told it could not be cracked as it didint pressurise my oil or water.... there goonna check it all over to see if its valves or anything if not god nos what it could be.
