Default Stuck lifter? What would it sound like & how to prove it

Last week my engine developed a rattle The car was fine on Monday when it did a 300 mile round trip but I started the engine 2 days later and it sounded awful I drove the car 20 miles on Saturday and the noise hasn't gone away and I suspected it was piston damage but NMS have suggested that because it was quiet on Monday then next time I used the car it wasn't it sounds more like a stuck lifter.

This makes sense I suppose but what would it sound like? How can I prove if it is a stuck lifter?

At the moment it sounds like piston slap on my engine but slightly louder and it doesn't go away when the engine gets warm.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

It is not piston slap that's for sure.
It might pay to try some tappet lube, I use WYNNs to excellent effect, but use the one called OIL SYSTEM CONDITIONER, weird name but the best one.

Just pour in the oil filler hole, and leave do not drain out.
For this you may have to go to a decent motor factors, or phone Wynns and ask where the nearest is to you.

When i first bought my sapph, it developed a rattle that sounded like cam followers, when i removed the rocker cover,
i found that the cam cap studs on the exhaust cam had worked loose due to the aluminium on the head going soft due to heat.
Ended up scrapping the head.
I'm not saying that this is the problem with yours,
but it might be worth checking?
