Mine works most of the time, then drops off. Then it comes back. It comes and goes!

Check the wiring on the back of the instrument cluster - I've learned to live with mine coming and going.

Don't know if you can still buy them from Ford.

Unless it's a standard car your better off buying a decent aftermarket one. Spent ages trying to get one working on my Saff then got a nice SPA gauge.

I have had a few where the needle sticks then if you tap the clocks it works ok for the rest of the day, I think this is common to have a few problems with them.
They can be fixed by SPEEDY CABLES, as I had one fixed and converted to read 8 cylinder for V8 engine in one.

look at the wires coming from the coil, the green one will go to very small resistor & is connectted by bullet connectors. remove the resistor & plug the two connectors together. this should cure it. think u can order a new resistor from ford but most people don't bother.

Try to check resistance between negative coil connector (green wire) and signal contact of the tacho (green wire too). The resistance must be equal zero or near. Then when ignition "ON" check the voltage between another two contacts of the tacho, it must be 12V or near. If that is OK, exchange the tacho. It dead.

PS: sorry for my english.

Yes, the soldering of all plate terminals of the tacho give a chance to revive it.
