hi there just asking few questions without offending your competance.

why would you think the timing had adjusted all of a sudden?
its non adjustable. Do you mean cambelt timing??

have you done a cambelt before??

Does it sound like tappets? or does it sound like a knock like valve slightly brushing piston??

Do you have an oil pressure gauge? whats it giving out ????
Did the turbo go because the bearings in turbo made a noise ???
It sounds like you have an oil pressure problem and no oil is getting to head and turbo??? (ie oil pump ?
let me know how you get on matey.

took head off and its either the crank or bigends as its been throwin the pistons up and they have been hitting the head/inlet valves thankfully it hasnt done any damage

ok but did the engine run fine before you took the head off??

The reason I ask is if you timed the engine up did you time tdc on the pulley to the actual peg or to the white grooved line on the pulley??

I'm not trying to take the mickey its just i know a lot of people who have timed tdc to the groove, and that groove isnt tdc on the pulley the peg is.

and so with it being out of time by a few teeth the piston makes slight contact with the valves.

nah the turbo was nakered there was alot of play in the fan and yes it was timed up properly theres alot of up and down play in the pistons wich was causing the problem and no the engine didnt run fine before i took the head off only reason i came on here and asked is because the sound was a bit unusual i work on cosworths qwite alot the engine will be out and stripped tomorrow so will find out what is wrong with the bottom end hopefully nothing to drastic
