Default LSD

Hi. I drive Sierra Cosworth 2wd and we have problems with LSD. I love drift so my LSD is live only for few months. I keep changing diffs with lsd from scorpio 2.0 or 2.9, but they also work only for few months. What to do to get lsd stronger? I know about quaife, but it is very expensive and i'm not sure if it is good for drift.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Driffting wil kill the LSD.
Why not just use a locked diff, ie welded diff if that is your thing ?

No, welding diff is not good, this maybe good for rally on gravel but not for drift on the asphalt...

i think the majority of people here who have welded diffs on a sierra would tend to disagree with you mate

dan is hot to trot at the mo, but wait till he posts his resluts of the ff drift car and you may be pleasantly surprised

But how is normal street driving. I'm interested how normal turns are done? If 1 wheel has to go shorter way... ???

i think it's at less than 5 mph that you feel the "hop" of the inside wheel
after tht they say it's fine, but a bit tricky when you put the power down as sometimes you go sidesways, a lot if you're not used to it

Here in Hungary a man in a little village callled Kisvarda made us a 90% 1.5way clutch plate lsd. It cost approx 300 ł per piece.

JanDK similar to a 2wd i suppose. it certainly makes them stronger so that they do not break when launching hard

JanDK doesn't cost much to do, just the price of a used differential which is probably nothing anyway as it does not need to be an LSD. just make sure that for 4x4 you get the same ratio as your front diff (or have the correct step off in the transfer box)

I do have a used spare 4x4 diff.... I guess that will do..

Is there some kind of manual somewhere here, how to weld this properly?

Thanks

if you do a search for welded diffs you should find some instructions - there are also instructions on the driftworks forum

basically, just weld all 4 gears together and put a rectangular plate in between from both sides of the cage - simple

in the meantime, here is a picture from when i welded mine

Sorry I wrote wrong

It is NOT a capri lsd, it is a custom made, mine is in the differential case so I have no picture from it. The same man biulds it what the lsd on the picture , but that is biuld for capri.
It is a small campany produce differentials, transfer box. You bring them the original for sample and they make a new one, whatever parameter you want.

z0tya i understand. i think that they would sell well over here. what is the cost? Ł300 or €300?

so it fits into the standard aluminium 7.5" casing using the same propshaft and output driveshafts?

Yes the diff is fully interchargeable. But can't put the lsd into the case youself. We take him the original diff, and got back with the new lsd inside, and the original parts.
So it costs :
original diff - approx. 250 pounds here in Hungary
clutch plate lsd - 350 pounds (hungarian forint is very strong now)
fitting work - approx. 80 pounds
and shipping - I don't know how much but huge because of weight

so I think it will be expensive to take it to UK

sounds good.

i guess that you don't need an lsd as original diff? in which case you can just use a 7.5" diff from a granada or scorpio to keep the cost down

Yes but you need an original diff because of the halfshaft. It is unique on 2wd cossie. These halfshafts get spring clip instead of the original retaining clip, because the lsd is closed cylinder.
