Default Polyurethane Exhaust Hangers

I have just fitted my exhaust up today. I have used some Poly hangers rather than the standard rubber items. I noticed that they now mount the exhaust firmly to the car.

Has anyone had problems if they have fitted these? Has the exhaust cracked or the brackets on the car broke?

Just it does seem tight, and the engine will move in relation to the car when its being driven so it could cause problems.

Thanks

Bruce

As in tight to the car body? if so it will vibrate of the floor, im sure your car didnt do this before, they will be alot tighter but if its touching the floor then its a no no

No mate, its not toughing the floor! lol

Its just the hangers are alot tighter than the standard rubber hangers. As in there is alot movement in the exhaust system, and i think it will put more stress on the joints or the exhaust in general.

My teacher told me that if you fitt a s/s exhaust, you should keep the standard rubber items. Because with the Poly hangers, the exhaust brackets could break.
Don't know if this is correct, but he said so.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

I fitted PU exhaust hangers and within a couple of weeks one of the exhaust brackets broke off

Doesn't leave much room for movement once fitted. I'm sure my exhaust manifold wasn't cracked before fitting these either

Default Exhaust Hangers

I fitted PU exhaust hangers to my 2wd saph with a mongoose ss system, shortly after the passengers side hanger snapped. Had a new bracket welded back on, went back to standard hangers all works well.

Hope this is of use.

Out of interest, to all the people that have had brackets break, what exhausts are you using? What make of bushes are you using? Are the cars excessively low or stiff? Have they broke whilst conering fast etc?

Just curious really to see if its something else adding to the problem and not a problem with the bush itself.

My car is pretty low. Exhaust is Mongoose. Exhaust hangers are powerflex. Brackets were fine before these were fitted. It snapped off on a motorway journey. When i arrived at my destination the eaxhaust had melted a large part of my rear bumper - just to add insult to injury. God damn!

I bought the deflex ones mate. And they are way to stiff, thats why is asked this question.

See how yours are.

I'll let you know, it's a fiesta, so hopefully the engine won't rock as much as in a cossie!

As said Fitting hard as nails exhaust mounts but leaving standard squidgy engine mounts will lead to problems.....imagine your engine rocking all over the place but having an exhaust that almost solid in its mounting and with a solid fixture to the turbo/manifold with no flexi joint...sommot has gotta give.
