Default Bad news on the Saph, do I shunt it on or keep it??

It appears as if the gearbox leak it's in for isn't the easy seal to fix after all, upon further invetigation at the dealer they need to remove the box (300 quid) inspect it and they seem certain it's a very expensive part to put right, something to do with the selector which is rubbing on the housing? Fuck knows.

I've already spend a FORTUNE on it up to now in 4 weeks and it's been in for 8 days at the main dealer. I've spent all in all, wheels and chasing the wobble about 1500 quid, add to this the box out 300 and whatever the component is say for the sake of argument 4-500 this tips it all about 2,500 up to now

I love the car but I'm beginning to think that Cossies and me don't mix, I had one before and spent about 4k on it and it was just a nightmare. Do I get the box done and sell it, get the box done and p/x it for a Focus RS or just keep it and battle on?

Or option d) Blow the bastard up?

What do you think lads?

I don't know the exact fault til they ring me tomorrow and inform me of what the fault actually is.

I know one thing, if it's in a Ford garage it's gonna be expensive

Ah the joys of Cosworth ownership!

phone the dealer
tell it to stop what it's doing
take it to a gearbox place to inspection

alternatively, tell the dealer to stop fucking you because your arse is sore

Turns out today the car should be ready tomorrow. It's supposedly a stone which was trapped when the selector goes in the box? Sounds daft to me but either way they don't need any parts so it's not as bad as I was first told

My pals advice 'get rid of the bastard, nowt but heartache and headaches and I'm sick of working on it'

My bird's advice 'Eeeeh they're rubbish them cars like'

My Pa's advice 'Should of got a Focus RS instead'

My ex's advice about my Cossie 'It's a lemon, a lemon on wheels'

So why do I keep coming back?

I guess some people just don't understand!

People like you and me really love them mate, not the best cars in the world but very addictive, most other ( NORMAL) people just think they are a very old fashioned ford and would rather drive a clio!

difficult to get up there, but once it's up there, it's not coming out in a hurry

wouldn't need the box out though, but it would need dropping
nothing more than a few bolts plus the exhaust off a touch and the pin in the gear stick comin gout to get your hans up there

7 days

7 days indeed, well 8 actually! they thought initially it was seal on the gearbox housing but it' wasn't in the end, they also replaced my 2 ABS sensors for the price of one which was canny.

If you own an old Cossie you really are best knowing how to do most of the maintenance yourself or have friend thats a mechanic, it can be very expensive to keep them on the road, i have a 3dr which i hardly use, their is no way i'd have a cossie for an everyday car, it would do my nut in,just too old.

Simon.

I'm not totally out my depth, much lol

I used to be a mechanic 10-11 years ago on Peugeots and had built CVH's on my Escort turbos etc, they were fairly easy to work on.

The Cossie is a dark art to learn, it's too big and has a huge YB shoehorned in and I just don't have the time to tinker on that much anymore with it since I'm without garage space.

But you're right I need to buy something else to use everyday.
