Default Strange noice..

When switching to the ignition mode I heard a very weird hissing sound coming from the fuel pressure regulator. It sounds just like an air leak.

When I heard this sound the engine wasn't running so there was no vacuum or boost avaible or whatsoever. It came straight out of the fuel pressure regulator like the petrol was pumping very hard through it.

My mate was also there with his 2wd sapp and we checked if he also had this noice but his fuel regulator was dead quiet.

So has someone got the same experience and can confirm if the regulator is defect when producing such a noice?

It's a Sierra Cosworth 4x4 I have got.

Probably just the sound of rushing fuel if lines were empty.

Thanks for the comments but I do know how the abs pump sounds etc.

I have listened to it carefully and indeed it sounds like fuel rushing through the line. Except the sound comes straight out of the regulator and it stays like that and doesn't stop. (Fuel pump also keps running, but that I already knew.)

So with the fuel pump running in ignition mode you shouldn't hear the fuel rushing like mad through the regulator? I have never heard this before on my previous cosworths, that's why I noticed it.

Also can say the cosworth has a fuel problem and maybe it is a default fuel pressure regulator. But I just want to know if this sound can indicate something before just pointing to say the regulator should be replaced.

I want to know for sure if there is a problem, not just changing something because it seems to make a weird noice.

@ rapidcossie; what do you mean by "have you checked the black hose going to the reg?"

If the fuel pump is running constantly you can hear fuel rushing to the regulator.
Maybe a good idea to check fuel pressure, may tell if there's a problem with the regulator.
