Default Mods Please Move : Zetec Turbo Front Breather Options

Hi all, just realised with my blacktop zetec turbo that I am a Breather short. I have the oil feed and return plugged in but this question relates to the crankcase Breather.

As standard the engine comes with the kidney box and I can see that this will clearly foul the escort rs turbo manifold. Other than tap the block anywhere else is there no other solution that would allow me to use this Breather? E.g a small 90 degree aeroquip adaptor that I could put a pipe in? Or is this blocked for another reason? I just don't want to pull it apart again to get an additional Breather put in if there is an easier option?

Or just make a plate and weld a pipe to it so it doesn't foul? That's what I would do.

That's exactly what we did with my mates one as you can bolt the turbo in place to see how much room you've got for your fitting

I'm fitting mine in the rear of the sump.

So turbo oil drain on the front, and anothe fitting the same on the back for a breather

I did mine like this, I also added another breather to the camshaft cover so I could then pipe the breather up like a rs turbo using a bailey breather.

That's the plan! Good to know its tried and tested. No dramas with that setup?

Nope seems to work just fine. You need to be carefull where you fit the rear breather stub in relation to the driveshaft though, mine comes out the engine then straight away turns 90degrees upwards.

Deano, Fancy making me one of those ?

I just realised I have posted this in the For Sale section whoops damn phone!

see with the Will Pedley solution would a braided hose just be used with an aeroquip at the end? I am deffo using a Escort manifold so will line it all up and see what space I have.

Ah ok so you have used a straight fitting on the back, I have a 90 degree fitting.

Is there any reason you can't use the breather already on the rocker cover? Do you definitely need to add another one to run an RST breather setup?

And yes, agreed behind my ERST manifold in my zetec I have just about enough space for the bolts on the blanking plate. No chance of getting a hose to it unless I've missed a trick.

My bailey breather would then have a empty port, unsure if it would work correctly, tbh its very easy to add the additional port to a silver top rocker cover, just requires carefull positioning.

I used a core plug to blank the front breather as I've heard of the manifolds fouling the bolts when using a blanking plate.

Dude I gotta ask, have you actually read Karlos's thread in detail a few times?
A lot of the questions you ask are all covered in the build thread/guide.

Hi Stu. I read it a fair few times. There was just a few bits that were unclear.

Apologies for being a pain in the arse lol.

Did you add the breather port to the sump yourself? Was it close to the drive shaft?

i had the sump built up with
weld and then drilled and tapped for the fitting. When assembling the car I had to shorten the fitting by about half then fit a hose with a 90degree bend so that it went straight up to avoid the drive shaft.
