Default Another puma thread (track day puma)

What is it with pumas just lately on here seems to be every other thread

Well me and a bunch of mates from work all chipped in and bought an mot failure 1.7 r reg puma off eBay to do tracks days in now as you can imagine it needed a bit of work to make it safe for track action ie brakes, springs, full service to make it reliable for our first outing at Cadwelll park well we blew the engine ! Gutted !

Never mind We got another off ebay £50 bargain and back in business

Then we booked to go to blyton park an old airfield in Lincolnshire. This was a good decision as there is nothing to hit unlike Cadwell so you'll not be surprised how big your balls become round this track.

The day wasn't without incident but we made running repairs which kept us out there more or less all day.

Now here is the funny part 2 of the lads are into bikes and regularly go to Cadwell park to track them I think they are nuts but that's another matter.

I've had comments from these 2 that front wheel drive is crap need 300bhp real drive for real fun 125bhp front wheel drive will be boring compared to our bikes that do 160mph. But how big do you think there grins was when they got out of this little 125bhp puma after 4 laps ? yes they loved it and can't wait to do our next track day just goes to show how you don't need loads of power or money to have fun which is what this little car offers in spades.

It's a completely standard 1.7 with crap tyres but we all have less than £200 each in it what brilliant fun

you just cant imagine it being as much fun as it is! I have the zetec-s (same platform) with racing puma engine in and its stripped with brakes coilovers and r888's and the fun you have is un explainable without taking someone out.

My mate is into bikes also and after him taking it out at Cadwell 4 years ago he still talks about it today.

Off to Cadwell next Sunday. Its my favorite track so far even though its a 3hr drive to get there its well worth it.

Defo agree matey. You dont need big money to have fun.I bought my puma for 800 quid replaced the rear axle bushes put brake shoes on it and ive just fitted bigger front brakes. Its got shot tyres and standard suspension.

Ive booked a track day at Donnington in November so I will see how it gets on.

I went round Combe in a mk7 zetec s and still had loads of fun

Good handling is more important than power, too get used too track days

But good fun can still be had in a old banger

Bought myself this little rough n ready beauty back in January for cheap track abuse. Had to use it for work for a couple of weeks and it lived on the limiter! Managed to somehow blow a massive hole in the gearbox but have sourced another then fitted the LSD from a Escort RST

Will get a thread up when the mods begin
