1.7 Exhaust Knocking
Hi all,
Its been some 6 years now since I said goodbye to my old focus and am now back in a (reasonably) fast ford again as company car is going.
Shes a 2000 (just, regged 1-1-2000) 1.7 - Got it with 69k on the clock FSH, good tyres and well looked after. Couple of minor niggles on paintwork but nothing major and got it for £680 - was up for just shy of £1000 but seller told me cambelt had been done but turned out to be the drive belt, anyway we walked away as its expensive, anyway got a call later and they agreed to knock the cost of getting it done off and given how good condition the arches are in (as i know its a bad point of this car) we snapped it up.
So far all running well had cambelt done and fixed minor painty bits but theres a strange problem with exhaust, it seems to knock something but not all the time seemingly more when its warm. It doesnt do it all the time and doesnt seem to be at same time as going over a bump for example but more with sideways movement, indeed if you nudge it a bit with your foot after you stop you can sort of recreate it.
I'm a somewhat of a novice when it comes to the mechanics of a car but I can see the exhaust is held by a couple of (rubber?) mounts. Could it just be these have been worn?
The exhaust was apparently replaced in last 12-18 months would these have been replaced as part of job or just reused?
If not they seem pretty cheap looking at
http://pumabuild.com/pumacat/product...roducts_id=194
is it just worth picking a couple up anyway? And on that note are they easy enough to fit?
Thanks in advance.
Ben
