ABS and TC light on my Puma ='((
Hi
Had new brake pads put on my Puma 1.7 1998.
This is work I needed for MOT, after he had put them on, ABS and TC (wheel with stones flying up!!) stayed on. Checked all the fuses, nothing, mechanic says he did nothing that would effect the lights, and calipers etc were all ok and that he wouldn't have touched the sensors, so it can't be anything he did. Any idea how I solve that?
(Sorry, I know I have lots of questions, but my bf is a 'bodge king' and I don't trust a word he says!!! He would rather just have the bulbs taken out of the dash for the MOT!!! See what I mean!!! lol xoxox)
Also, have an acceleration issue; bottoms out if I try to accerate too fast, poodles around, but can't pull out fast or accerate fast. Will go to speed if I let it climb gradually, but no 'boy racer' power!!! LOL Just filled it with lovely high performance fuel and a dose of reddex, but still bottoms out, although it's running smoother. Could it be the airflow meter??
It's had; new brakes, used catalytic converter, new springs and shocks on the front, welding on the offside.
The exhaust centre that fitted the cat. converter, had to have all the relevant parts moved out of the way etc to put it on, and now I have a clunking noise in the gearbox (engine off) and gears don't feel the same. Should I take it back to them and ask them to fix it?
Need my MOT, but of course, won't pass with warning lights on!! I hate the bus!!
Many thanks for reading my post ev1, much appreciate any helpful advice

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Try new spark plugs for the loss of power issue.
As for the light, they may have damaged the wiring going into one of the hubs to the abs sensor, if the wire is damaged or the sensor is broken, the light will illuminate.
Sounds like youve let some right cowboys work on it if you taken it to be repaired and its come back fixed but with new issues !

Also, taking the bulb out won't pass an MOT as the bulbs need to illuminate when the ignition is switched on.

I wouldn't let him take out the bulbs anyway, but I see your point.
Anyone think it might be the airflow meter for the problem with acceleration?

Traction light on will result in low power, certainly in 1st and 2nd. You need the fault codes read to find out which wheel is giving the problem then check the sensor and the distance to the ring it reads from. These are easy to bend which will fail to read correctly

ABS/TC light could be down to a broken wire to one of the sensors, do you run bigger wheels or standard? 17's are known for scrubbing on lock and where they do scrub is right where the sensor runs!
also it could be the sensor itself, its just a magnet thats bolted into the hub if dirt gets between it and the tone ring it can send the light on as its not picking up a signal (thats what happend on my puma) spray some brake cleaner at it and see if it cures it!
Loss of power? try maf or lambda sensor both are common on puma's and can cause a lack of power or hesitation when accelerating.
if not you'll need to find a very friendly MOT tester

Update! Jan 13
Update is; I have an MOT now, but still have the issue with the power. Had a mechanic do a diagnostic, it says its the variable cam, which was not seated, but we anchored it, temporarily.
It is either a fuel or air problem. It will drive ok, unless you accelerate fast, at that point, it suffocates, of either air or fuel. Spent too much on it for now, but would be grateful for ideas. We have checked engine over and there is a rubber cover that is perished, but Fords aren't able to find the part on their system. It stems off an intake that can be used for an addition to the fuel/air system, where the air intake passes through the fuel (thingy, sorry but it's late and I can't remember what the part is called, but it is like the carb. which I know this car doesn't have, more's the pity, but that's where it is.) A small nipple with a rubber stopper. It might not be that. Open to idea's. Need to sell it to recoup my money and buy something cheaper! Urgently!
Thanks for any time you took to read this, and even more if you answer with some useful idea's!!
Kind Regards
Cas
