puma starting issues
Hi guys,
Today Ive pulled one of my 1.7 puma's out of my lock up, and I am having issues getting it to start properly, Its been in there just over a month, so I made sure the battery is fully charged before I went to start it, but it its acting as if the battery is flat, it does start with a jump start and the alternator is charging fine but when its turned off it wont restart, Ive tried a spare fully charged battery on it and its the same, it was working fine when I put it in the lock but no its not playing ball, so any of you lot got any ideas what is causing it not to start with out a jump start ?
cheers
Andrew

check your earth cables to the body, no idea where they are on a Puma; also check the wiring to the starter & alternator to make sure A) the cables are in good condition B) no nuts are loose
lastly; once its started with a jump start, get/borrow a meter to see what charge (volts) the alternator is kicking out with everything turned off

Are the dials sweeping when you try to start? = duff battery
Are you getting the solenoid click only when you try to start? = duff battery
A common problem on the starter is that it doesn't engage when required. Try starting it with someone giving the starter a tap with a hammer as that sometimes frees it up.
