Default anyone changed alternator from mk3 mondy tdci??

as title, my ones packed up so got another one and gunna do it at the weekend, ive herd there an easy job?
if any ones done one any tips or advise??

not a bad job comes out of the bottom,think you have to move the anti roll barlink to squeeze it out.

It is straight forward as long as you have the special tool required for the auxillary belt tensioner. Its not so simple without it.
The tensioner has two 1/2" holes in it in which the special tool fits. The tool is sort of y shaped so you can lever the tensioner back to get the belt on.

ok thanks for the advice, i dont have the tensioner tool, so i think im gunna have probs, anyone no where u can get one?

Local car parts shops near you might stock the tool. Companies like Laser and sealey tools make them.

Or you can cut a 1/2" extension bar and use a spanner on the end of your really stuck.

Change the belt when you are that far along as its not easy to change and you have to remove the alternator if changing it.

Did our one, had to bring it out of the wheel arch as it would not come out of the top or bottom,had to make the special tool aswell ,found it easier doing the gearbox change on my rs turbo

yea i can see it clearly from the wheel arch, so thats a good starting point, im jus not looking forward to this belt as it seems to be a pain in the arse

well the alternators loose, jus dont have a clue bout loosening this tensioner

if you have to do the air con pump, just pay someone, mine's been on the blink for 8 months and i've only just got round to getting it out of position

the petrol ones are a walk in the park

i was goin to pay someone to do the alternator as i cant be bothered, but ppl are on hol or way to busy and i cant really wait as i have no car

if it was petrol i'd explain with pics as i've got one apart but the diseasal ones seem to be much more different

Looking at the bottom pulley, the tensioner is just above to the left. You can't loosen it as such as it is spring loaded. I have some pics from when i did mine, i can try posting them if it would be of any help?

This shows the new one in place.

This one shows new and old on the bench, see the 2 x 1/2" square holes that the special tool slots into.
