Default mk1 focus

hi, saw a relatively cheap mk1 3 door 1.6 on a local classified site,

http://www.maltapark.com/item.aspx?ItemID=5893232

and on separate listing, a duratec motor.

A combination which of course is quite tempting. what else does it need other than bigger brakes and a rear disc conversion?

Depends on what your plans for the engine are ? But an st170 will be cheaper stronger and have bigger brakes a better interior as standard and more power to start with.

The only advantage with the Duratec is slightly less weight out front.

Well you have to find an st though, I was lucky to find that 3door(bought new locally). The alternative is import a used one from you and pay exorbitant annual road tax!!

Is the engine swap straightforward? Don't want to mod

You will also need engine loom, interior loom, ecu, full exhaust system, ancillaries and plumbing etc. Its not as easy as just drop it in as the 1.6 zetec-se is totally different to the zetec-e.

The ad in the second link says it has all the stuff other than exhaust.

It was and it wasn't, the 170 and RS were badged Duratec, which was a marketing stunt, as essentially they were Zetec-E engines.

But to the question, as Richie says, there is so much difference between Zetec and Sigma.

Nobody has owned up to getting one of these running on the oem ecu yet and you are looking at a LOT of cash for aftermarket.
