Default MK1 Focus Hand Brake Dash Light

Just picked up a MK1 2003 Focus with 53k on the clock. After a quick drive the other night the ABS light flickered slightly then went out. I now have the Hand Brake light come on while driving and randomly turn on and off.

After a bit of research I have found possible causes online:

- Brake Fluid Needs Topping Up.
- Handbrake Switch Loose.
- Brake Pads need Replacing.
- Possible Brake Fluid Leak, from near Clutch Pedal.
- Something involving Master Cylinder inside Clutch Leaking.

Obviously first thing to do is check fluid level, then check for leak by Clutch Pedal.

Where do I go after this? Can you check pads without taking the brakes apart? Or should I be looking at something else first? Could there be another issue?

All advice welcome with this situation welcome.
