what focus diesel engine is best
I have been offered a ford focus 02 1.8 tdci 5 door hatch, has full m.o.t with no advisories and also has full service history they are wanting £900. can I ask is the TDI a good diesel to have? or should I be looking at another

Yes the TDDI is the better and more reliable engine although you are at risk of the EDC or pump control module failing randomly at any time. You can swap over the EDC module on the pump nowadays rather than having to swap the pump out which saves a fortune. I think the EDC modules are about £250 exchange.
Better though than the TDCI of that era which can have loads more different issues with the electronic injectors, duel mass flywheel, high pressure pump failure non of which the TDDI has.
Granted the TDDI is only 90hp and the TDCI is 115hp but they are still quite nippy but the biggest thing to look for on any old Focus is rust !

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
My dads had plenty of Focus mk1 Tddi and Tdci's over the years that have been used as taxis. Most of the cars had come from the likes of LEX auto lease with over 120k on. The tddi versions had proven to be more reliable than the tdci versions after being taxied for 7 years. Although both tddi and tdci versions had suffered with piston failure.
