Focus 1.6 Ghia auto 2003 no temp gauge

Focus 1.6 Ghia auto 2003 no temp gauge
Car has had head rebuild due to burnt valves
New cam belt Ect
Car drives fine other than it feels like the choke is on and gives bad mpg
Temp gauge stays at lowest even after a 20 mile run
If you stop turn off the ignition and just turn ignition on gauge shows some response but then falls off
New cht sensor fitted to no avail
Also wiring checked across top of rocker cover in brown insulation
Please help
