Well you can definitely tell winter is back as the dreaded clutch slip returned today! Was ok all summer, but now it's back, and considerably worse than last year :-(
Anyone else suffering?

Never ever herd of a clutch slipping because it's winter lol if it slips there's a fault

Yeah, the fault is I'm running Bluefin stage 2! And the standard ST clutch is made of chocolate! So therefore doesn't like it when you put a bit more power and a lot more torque through it. The RS clutch is what I need as thats rated for 400bhp, however it's rather expensive. I am saving for it but its not going to well!
It's a common problem with the ST, and common for it to be worse in the winter. Mine slipped a little bit in 5th and 6th when using all of the torque last winter, but then as the weather improved and the temperatures rose, it disappeared. Now the weather and temperatures have changed, it's back, and considerably worse!
Got to get me that RS clutch!!!

Clutches don't slip in the winter .


In that case It must have been winter when I launched it at the pod and my clutch slipped , Tarmac must've been to cold .

The problem with the St is it has a very poor clutch as standard and when you start to tune them the clutch can't handle the torque, even just a stage 1 remap can cause it to slip. It can slip in just the winter as with the colder temperatures the air going in is colder and the intercooler is working better because of the colder airflow which both result more power and torque thus causing the clutch to slip at certain times of the year when the air is at its coldest.

So it's not the fact the clutch slips because it's winter,

It's the fact that the air is cooler , which means charge temps are cooler thus giving you more poke.
It's like that with most turbos cars with lower air temps it feels faster, but most cars clutches can handle it.

Except for an st's pony clutch , by the sound of it .

Never had clutch slip in the winter with my mapped ST when it was on the standard clutch!

The Clutches seem to be a bit of a lottery, some people run 300bhp+ with the standard one were as others start to slip with just a remap, just a bit hit and miss really, 2007 cars seem to be the worst for it. From what I've heard the early cars came out with good clutches that could handle the torque, but people were complaining of a heavy clutch pedal so ford decided to change them to soften the pedal.

The pressure plate is the cause of the clutch slip.

Mine was over 300bhp and had a standad clutch. It would slip for a couple of days then it would be alright for a month or so. Just put up with it lol.
It's only the pressure plate that is different on an rs clutch, the friction plate etc is exactly the same. If you get the box off and there is loads of meat left on it you might get away with just changing the pressure plate.

I never had any issues with my 2007 ST & a Dreamscience DSCi map, standard clutch was fine summer & winter.

My 2007 plate focus St started slipping as soon as I run dreamscience Dsci map, fitting the full RS clutch dmf and bearing cured it.
