Thats precisely all i did....aswel

Sometimes people look for problems which turn out to be nothing but dirt or grime/corrosion like my bmw which had a faulty wiper switch and brakelight cuircuit failure which i repaired with wd40 on the contacts

Yep, that's all I could do. I couldn't get the motherboard off as the screw that is in the hole wouldn't budge. I just sprayed it and then tested. It worked so I put it all back together. Lets see how long it lasts.

Update: It has been over a 10 days and I have covered about 150 miles. The EML hasn't come back on and the car is running much smoother. There was a slight bogging down low down the revs when the flap was sticking. It has gone now. Hope it lasts

Hi all

First post - be gentle!

Like many Im having problem with my IMRC. I have picked up a spare from a car which was breaking - my plan is to refurb this one and then swap with the one on my car.

Can anyone tell me which route the IMRC cable takes from the box to the DSI clip? What else do I need to remove (other than airbox) in order to snake the cable around/under where ever it goes?

Thank you!

I never actually took the whole thing out of the car. I just unscrewed the imrc box from the bulkhead and opened it up and wd40'ed it.

the cable just runs under the air box thats all you need to take out.

Right so you reccon that if i spray this little box of magic with wd40 it will work. ive had this box off so many times trying to avoid the Ł190+vat from fords for a new one. ive already re-soldered the connections on the motherboard inside and that did turn the light out for 2 months over a thousand miles... ill do the wd40 trick tomorrow and let you lot know how i get on.

Took it apart today and sprayed some wd40 in there and re soldered the main connections. Turned the light out with the scanner. Done 15 miles so far see how it goes.

Hi guys, I would like to add to this thread because I have recently had my Management light come on to be told is was the Runner staying open.

However once I stripped out parts I could see that the DSI cam had come off the end of the runner shaft.

I repositioned it and thought how was it fixed in place! today I went out and the light came on again, I looked at the cam to only find it come off completely this time and therefore the return spring has now gone missing.

I visited my local Ford Dealer, Vospers in Plymouth and have now ordered a new came and a clip, which was missing and the reason why it came off in the first place.

Does any one know if a new spring comes with the came / clip, if not where can I get one?

Default Missing DSI return Spring

Hi Guys, I recent had the Management light come on. I was told it was the 'Inlet Manifold Runner Staying Open'.

Upon investigation I found that the Runner Cam had come off the runner shaft.

I managed to repostion it and load up the spring to open the runner when the cable doesn't pull on it, but did think how was it kep in position.

That was yesterday, today I went out and the light came back on, I had a look at the cam to find it had come of, but the return spring had been lost now.

Upon looking at these threads I have discovered that it is a star washer that goes over the shaft.

I have now ordered a new cam and spring from my local Dealer, Vospers in Plymouth, but they couldn't tell me if the return spring came with it.

Does any one know if it does, if not, where can I get one?

Post Similiar issue

Hi Guys

With my ST the unit stopped working due to the plastic gear inside the IMRC being broken and the management light staying on.

I stripped IMRC unit and rebuilt up that plastic Gear due to the fact that Spares are rare on this side of the planet. After a few months it broke again and i just fixed the unit of open and use the car everyday.

It seems to be fine, does anyone know if this could have a negative performance affect?

I would prefer to upgrade then repair and I am considering the aftermarket metal unit or ITB's .

I need power guys and lots of it!!!!

Hi Fraserb

You have to strip the complete intake manifold to get to the unit
Remove the IMRC unit from the fire wall with the attached cable
Open the box up, carefully as it is factory sealed
Repair the gear and you should be fine for a temp repair and it will save you cost

But as i said, i jammed the gear open on the manifold on mine

Best of luck

You don't need to strip the intake manifold mate to get it out. You unbolt it from the bulkhead and it can be manoeuvred over onto the battery try to be worked on. What had happened with mine was that the return spring had jumped off the cam inside the unit. Turn gear to get it back into the correct position, a wee bit chemical metal to hold it in place and hey presto problem solved. There's a good thread on it over on focus world

Hey everyone, I own Ford Focus ST170 (2003) and since a long time I am facing IMRC problem too. The only code that comes up is P1518. I already tied a few attempts to fix it, no luck so far.

1. Firstly I replaced one of the famous transistor inside the IMRC. No problem for about a month, then P1518 came back. At the beginning the check engine light was coming back every few days. 2 days - no problem, then again check engine light for next 3 days. And again and again. What I'm trying to say is that the issue wasn't permanent.

After few more months the check engine light stayed and never went back. After removing the error code it comes back always after about 50km or 3rd engine start.

2. So I sent my IMRC for a regeneration. A lot of parts inside were changed for new ones. Regenerated IMRC was tested on the other vehicle and everything was fine. But after placing it in my car the check engine came again. So basically no difference.

3. Then I asked electrician to check the wires. He checked all IMRC cables, including the signal cable that goes to the driver. Everything is fine.

So...

* IMRC is fine
* Cables are fine too

What else can be wrong? Broken lever? Something else? I've seen an opinion somewhere that "If it's throwing a code it's a bad IMRC, if the lever breaks you don't get a code". That confused me a lot.

Any opinions/solutions? Thanks in advance!
