2 seconds slower round the track compared to the Focus RS....i'll take the RS me thinks...

It may have a Volvo...or hell, the whole thing may be a Volvo, and lasts forever...but I'd still have the RS over it any day!

Looks good to me....

only 2 sec's slower and on a very wet track - looks promising to me

I'm gonna book a test drive so we'll see how it goes

Once you've test drove, you will be impressed.
You will always get the ODD negative FRS owner.

Only 1 sec slower than the RS when it was first tested and it was poor visibility and a greesy track i think this car will shame a lot of high performance cars on a dry day!
Stick to the RS mate as the ST will outpace you!

Sorry but even if you modfied yours, due to a 5 speed box your top end wont be miles off a standard ST's
it wont be long before the st is modded and with it been pratically the same engine as the S60R theni'm afraid 300 bhp isnt going to be to hard to get out of these!

Aye, just a bit pissed I think coz there's another Ford coming out, but the RS was in a way the last of the proper FORD built powerful cars..

Despite the fact Ford own Volvo...LOL

morph, your wasting your time. Some FRS owners are upset for some reason. Dont know why. Is it because of the ST .
My brothers got the FRS and he said he would not buy one because he might regret his actions. I THINK NOT!.

I think you have hit the nail on the head mate!
I had an RS and it was a fantastic car but for me the interior, which i had to see every day was just too much and the amount of feedback the steering gave was just too intense! i like a fine balance of comfort and performance and quality. the RS was all performance and none of the other two things. I am not slating the RS as i expect on any track day the RS would be a hard car to beat even if you had an ST. but i dont go to tracks that often and i would rather have a car that handles alot better on our british roads made of adverse cambers and rutts and potholes where an ST would inspire that extra bit of confidenence out of most drivers.

I cant understand why these RS drivers are getting there backup so much over the ST!
My conclusion would be that deep down they may actually have a feeling that the ST is a better car! who knows? all i can say that on most country roads my way, the golf gti was just inspiring to drive over the horrible road surface, where as the RS was just too hard work to keep control of!
and if the gti was that good i cant wait to try the ST down the same roads.
i managed to peak 100mph around these roads in the new GTI, in the RS i could only push to about 95mph. the road is bad condition and has about about 8 right bends and about 10 left tight bends over a 2mile distance only short amount of straights on this road,
This just shows you that a softer suspension setup can make a car handle better on broken road surfaces

Quality post mate!
why are RS owners upset, they should be happy for Ford.
Its like others have said, as well as me.
If this had the RS Badge they would like it. (The best thing since sliced bread).
Its not a competitor to the RS but they feel it is, with its new performance.
Its against VW Golf and Vauxhall Astra VXR.
You need to see the post on the RSOC forums its just the same.
Ive got to say its getting more praise than slating.

Cheers Borgie

At the end of the day, the new ST is a good car, really is. Despite the fact it'll never be a good handeling car like the RS, considering most of the Top Gear footage had it on 3 wheels is beside the point....

I wouldn't have one as its purely not worthy of the RS badge...it doesn't have the same presence as all RS cars that have been...

I wish you could understand the concept of clarkson showing the car going on 3 wheels! it just means that the car is very controllable and wont bite you with lift off oversteer. i bet 95% of drivers wouldn't be able to notice any gains in handling from an ST to the RS.
like we say you cant except another hot ford taking the limelight other than the RS!

Yes I can, if it had all FORD parts...this is just ford trying to catch up to other big companies and their hot hatches...

They just don't realise they had with the RS, and the fact I don't have an RS makes the case stronger...

Although I do have the RS engine in my car...

What do you mean how it handles??? The thing was piss poor, even in the wet...if it had some cheap tyres on, the thing would be as bad as the VXR...

Have you all seen the picture with the new ST at the side of a FRS?

Well you need to see what catces your eye first.

Much against what you lot think, its the FRS.

Yes your right in thinking, another FRS lover. (proper car)

I like the inside of the RS .....

& I do think the ST will be a good car with plenty of tuning available!!

I don't view it as RS owners putting it down as said above apart from the two brothers " which is to be expected", it looks like most of the RS owners are more than happy with what they have.

If the ST had an RS badge on the boot this would not make me upgrade unless the car had 4x4 and 300bhp which is what we all have been waiting for..... for far too long now!

I agree the orange does look good on the car and feel the car will be a good all rounder.....but I can't help dropping in this little clanger.............depreciation. = ST .........FRS !

parkers have predicted that the car will hold its value, better than the new golf gti anyways

Talking about depreciation, if I was the owner of a 210bhp FRS, and had forseen the arrival of the 221bhp 17.5k Focus st a few months ago I think I'd have been looking up the number of my local autotrader office.
I think its fair to say that the value of the FRS (great car that it is) has remained pretty well inflated for the last few years due to a distinct hole in the fast ford market. That hole has just been filled. I'm thinking the next few months are going to be a great time to pick up a cheap RS as their owners look to upgrade/offload their cars as people start waking up to how good the ST is. Having driven both cars I know which I prefer and it ain't blue!

As awesome as the ST is I just don't think it has the same presence as the FRS. If it was my cash I would get the FRS I'm afraid even if the ST is the better of the two. I'm not sure what it is bu the ST is just lacking in something

Ford designed and engineered the FRS whereas the ST seems to be a bit of a bean counters car developed for the money not for the love. And it is this that the FRS has and will continue to have after the ST's launch. Saying this though it's good that Ford are putting out fast cars to chase the hot hatch market

I'm sure the ST will be a success

Top comments mate.
My brother keeps saying that the ST will loose money quicker.
Lets just wait and see. All cars loose money at the end of the day.
A NEW MODEL WILL ALWAYS BRING AN OLDER MODELS PRICE DOWN.
So i might buy a cheap RS to use daily and use the ST for summer only .

A true fact

I used to sell Ford cars for a living and can tell you this........

Could anyone walk into a Ford dealer and get discount off a FRS?

Answer - NO

Can anyone walk into a dealer now and get discount off a ST?

Answer - Yes

Even privledge customers and Ford employers could not get any discount from a FRS but they can a ST .

So when you talk about residual values, it aint rocket science to work out what going to hold its money the best!

Them who laugh first, laugh last!! (3 years time)

FRS OWNERS

ST OWNERS

The ST is a proper car, but so is the FRS so its up to whoever to put their money into "what does it for them".

well i picked my ST up yesterday, i'll be keeping it 9 months an then selling it, i can't see me loosing much if anything at all because i got a cracking deal on an ST3, and even if i do, say i loo 1-1.5k it's still only 150 quid a month for a car under full warranty with good performance, new, and more than anything, it's what i wanted. Why do people always have to bitch and whine. I thought it was bad enough with fighting about ford v vaux etc i've owned both and think it's horse shit but i've seen it all now with bitching abou RS v ST. Suck i tup soldier and drive the cars you want to drive and let others drive the crs they want to!
Oh and btw, FRS's are all driven by Chavs!! I'll stick to my ASBO or my mk1 astra!

Been talking to my mate last night who is a FORD Salesman.

Basically they are not going to produce many ST1's, so that customers upgrade to a 2 or 3.

He doesn't even need to speak to the sales manager to knock 2K (TWO THOUSAND QUID) off the list price!

If you take a Ł19.5k ST3 over 3 years with a ballon payment at the end.

FORD are working out your payments with the car having a residual of Ł6.5K in 3 years time, having covered 30K............

And they are starting to appear as parallel imports at 14 - 14.5K!

Don't remember those deals with the FRS................

That is because there was, as we would say a limited number of FRS.
seem to me that you're hoping the ST will loose money.
SO WHAT!
There seems to be quite a few FRS owners selling,to buy one.
So you might find FRS prices will drop too.
ARE YOU BOTHERED!

I would get an ST if they did them with a panther black shell, white doors, bonnet and boot, as it could be used as a taxi then.
LOL

Just having the crack!

Dont spit your dummies out ST owners, i like it really!

Well, I have to say I'm still not sure about the looks of the ST and will probably stick with my RS, but I will be going along to test drive one etc. just to make sure

Anyway, how about these images I've cobbled together as an example. IMHO the RS definitely has it on looks
