Mk1 Focus RS Breather Questions
This is not really about a Focus RS but about the breather systems they run as I may adapt some parts to run on my car (an Escort RS Turbo with a ZVH) to cure some breathing issues which have been documented elsewhere on this forum.
My questions are the following:
1) What parts does a stock FRS Breather have? I have an idea of how the stock Zetec breather works but of course this is probably quite different to how an FRS is. A picture of the parts would be great if this is possible.
2) How do you peeps alter or improve the breather system on your cars or are they generally trouble free?
3) Have any of you used the front crankcase breather vents as shown below?
http://www.c-f-m.com/performancepart...Delete-p90.htm
If so, is there any difference between the two or are they both the same? I am hoping the above will work without me taking drastic action (i.e baffling the rear crankcase breather (put on mine to replicate the breather on a CVH with the front breather now being blocked off on the block.
Cheers.

The CFM sounds decent if it is fine for track work. It is there that I have having issues. Being a CVH based engine there are a few differences on my car but it is good to see that the CFM jobby seems to do the job . The issue for me at the moment is that my car is throwing a 1/3 litre of oil onto the track (or catch tank) within 10 minutes of driving and the car seeing hard right corners. On the road it is fine but of course it is nice to be prepared for other conditions.
Here is a thread of what has been suggested on what to do with my car for those wondering :

It seems the following has been suggested from a few sources, startng with the most reputable peeps first:
-Baffle the rear crankcase drain or reuse the front Crankcase vent. - I don't really want to strip the engine down for the former but if I wish to use the car on track I may have to make a decision. The CFM vent looks like a good solution here
-Put the vent pipe into a catch tank ; this will save tracks getting dirty but losing a 1/3 litre in 10 minutes may well spell the end for the engine
-Baffle the sump or fit a baffled sump ; this should work (my current one is lacking a baffle) but there are question marks over the breather system with my engine having a Zetec bottom end
-Dry sump it (down the pub talk from previous owner) - Probably the best solution but not one for me - It may potentially take up more space although I would lose the oil separator in the car at the moment and it is bloody pricey!

The focus rs front breather goes from front of engine to flametrap to pcv valve to one way valve to back of inlet. The top cam breather goes to oil separator then breathes back to induction pipe with a return to upper sump on bottom of the separator. I removed mine as i never had space after fitting a gt28 so run a will pedley breather to bailey cosworth oil seaprator. Cam breather to bailey separator and return to upper sump. I vent to atmosphere now
