Default Mk1 focus RS. What are they like?

As above. My mate is really toying with the idea of getting one.

Hes had st170's etc but never an rs.

What are they like to own? Thirsty, reliable etc....

Seem to be a few at the 5.5-6k mark which is his budget!

What is there to look for when viewing one?

Great cars, especially out of the box a few mods exhaust filter and manifold with a remap should push you near 300 which is when they come alive.

Mine's always been reliable they are pretty juicey but what do you expect. Parts are pretty cheap to, I would highly recommend one.

I thought that would be the response. Would you buy a cat d? As the prices are lowest on these. He wants one now before prices go up as I cant see them coming down anymore.

He wants no more then 300bhp as it would cost to much to run

What do you need to look for when buying one? Any common faults?

Common faults are water leaks from pipes (metal pipe cambelt side and matrix hoses) and charge cooler box, make sure charge cooler pump is working(take lid off the CC bottle and make sure there's a jet of water squirting whilst car's running).

Great car, although my oppinion is very biased loads of fun to drive, especially as previously said when running around 300bhp, but they are a drivers car, you gotta be switched on when running at full chat, if you ain't it'll bite you on the way into a hedge there is a buyers guide on rsoc forum which should tell you what to look out for, http://bbs.rsownersclub.co.uk/showthread.php?t=369127
