Default FRS MK2 Steering rack issues

Hi all,

Has anyone had any bother with FRS mk2 steering racks? My 09 performance blue RS needed a steering position sensor after Christmas and now the rack has gone with all fluid leaking out of it. Ford are struggling to get a new rack, I've seen posts from other people who have had bother getting one. Car has 48 000 miles done, full service history.

I had similar problems, angle sensor replaced then a few month later the rack went, all work was done under warranty.

Hi, what age was your car when that happened? I've been on to Ford Customer Relations, they haw offered to pay £140, I'm left to pay £670. Did they give an explanation as to why the rack went? I'm very suspicious of the reason. I was a Ford mechanic for 7 years back in the mid '90s, saw a lot of faults but never a rack failing at 45000 miles.

Cheers,

Garry.

Sorry, 48000 miles. Car has also had two front dampers as one leaking and a radiator as seams went. Dealer I bought the car from paid for them tho. I was also quoted £1000 for a new loom as wires broke at front abs sensors, I sorted both sides by spicing in two plugs which were listed for mondeos, focus loom is one piece for some bizarre reason, keep that one in mind lol.

The cars a 59 plate and had covered 20000 miles at the time, it was September last year, I've got 2 year extended warranty, wasn't any question of them not repairing it.

Radiator and abs sensors are a very common problem with them.
