Deactivating the imob/PATS
Right I only have one key that starts the car. The spare key won't start the car?
That means if I want any more keys made I have to go to Ford who want to drain me of £100+ for a spare. I can get it done for about £70-£80 but I can't find anywhere to get the key cut and ford will only cut a key if I buy it from them.
I want to get an aftermarket alarm/imob as it brings my insurance down by around £100 And It would be nice to have an alarm and abit more piece of mind.
Is there any way to deactivate the standard immob?
I was thinking of putting the chip in the spare key and gluing the spare key somewhere up near the reader but afraid it might get lost etc.
I'd rather do it properly and get the whole thing deactivated.
I know with my 406 I simply unplugged the ECU while it was running which left it unlocked. I then simply unplugged the reader and plugged the ECU back in and no immob. But I feel the Focus won't be this easy

You can't deactivated the PATS so don't bother trying.
You can buy blank remote key blades from Ford for about £4 and any key cutter (Timpsons) will cut it for around a five using your old key as a template for the keycode. Remote keys can be picked up on eBay for around a tenner and your newly cut keyblade is a straight fit. Yes your going to need to get the 2 keys and the car all coded to each other but Ford aren't the only option for this - I paid £50 to get mine plugged in and coded at a Ford specialist and I've since sorted myself out a Jag flip key and a re-bladed mk2 flip key giving me a total of 5 keys which all work the same car.
More than 1 way to skin a cat if you can be bothered researching it.

I have seen a few guides on the net that tell you how to code the keys yourself. Its a right twat no having a remote, when i bought my focus it had no remote key so untill i got a new one, the alarm used to go off all the time in the petrol station and there was nothing i could do but que up to pay and ignor the focus wailing on the forcourt

The remote on my key is dead. Tried changing the battery and reprogamming it but nothing I think. It's well fried.
You can't code an extra key unless you have 2 coded keys in the first place, which I don't

So you're going to gave to get the PATS reset by someone with the Ford software regardless.
So you're saying you can buy a blank key and get everything reset but can't get the key cut? I know you're in sheep shagger territory but I didn't realise you were still stuck in the stone ages as well. Just go somewhere else.

The dealer wants £10 to cut the key but says they'll only do it if I buy the key from them (£40 for a plain key, £60 for a remote key).

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Is there a big car boot sale near you? The one near us every sunday has a mobile key cutting guy there, only charges a few quid to do a key. Worth a try. Good luck sorting it out.

It basically involves turning the ignition key on and off around 6 times IIRC this then initiates "Learning Mode" at which point you put your new key it for it to be paired. The remote key programming is different.
So you just need someone to cut you a key.
Do you know if you would get a discount by having the optional Ford alarm fitted?

Sorry to hijack the thread, I've got a 2002 Focus, which i bought and drove home, then swapped the buttons on the key fob as they were knackered and now i can't get the car to start. The fob will still open the doors/central locking but won't turn the car over.
The little light on the dash is flashing which i think indicates that the imobiliser is armed and i can't get it to disarm. I've got an electronic key and a standard key with a blue dot on it.
Does anyone have any ideas of what i need to do?
Cheers
Mike

Exactly what he ^^ said, the remote key has the transponder inside the key, the blue part on top of the other key is the transponder.
So long as you have taken the transponder from your key and from what I understand this wasen't changed so it shoulden't have effected it.
I was working on someones this week (Galaxy) and with these when you split the key the transponder can fall out if your not careful so make this has not happened!
