Default question about thermostat housing

common problem for the st170 as you know prone to leaking.

alot of people say they have issues just getting hold of 0-ring. ford try and sell you whole kit.

as you also know its normally just seal (O-RING) that needs replacing.

is this the bad boy

No that is the seal inside the thermostat housing. You need this Focus RS Thermostat/Block Seal from this link posted above http://www.carpartsexpress.co.uk/RS-...49-53-710-374/

When i tried to do mine i only found out ford gave me the wrong o-ring when i had everything in bits and on the mondeo one of the bolts is a total c*nt to reach, was not happy so ended up sealing mine up with the old one and some gasket paste.

The thermostat housing are prone to cracking also.

got it through all good.

but i thought that part was meant to be hard plastic rather than rubber?????? just seems that when reading some forums about people replacing the seal (o-ring) on the thermostst housing it seems like they say its plastic. correct me if im wrong

not that ive replaced it yet

]cheers

On the st170, they always leak from the bung in the bottom of the thermostat housing, it is about an inch round, not the seal between thermostat housing and block!

Feel underneath the hose that goes into the housing from the radiator, under this hose is the bung that it will be leaking from.

Just look where it is leaking from! Look at that bung, you might have a bit of crustyness round it, and look at the gearbox, there will be a stain on it fro where the coolant has been dripping down the front.
