which tyres
the time has come to have a complete set of tyres fitted.
i have a standard mk1 with st170 wheels but the tyres are the wrong size, they are 205/40/17 instead of 215/45/17 and are too harsh. has anybody had KUMHO ku31 tyres fitted to their car? i heard they were a pretty good compromise between good road holding(both dry and wet)and value for money. i can get a set of 4 fully fitted for £291.
i know there are a lot of cheaper ones, but i have budget tyres on there now and even though they are ok in the dry, they are shocking in the winter.

Not had KUMO's.
Was running on Michelins on 15" alloy's, recently upgraded to 17" MP3 wheels with 215/40/17 Yokohama Parada Spec 2 PA01 87W tyres.
These are pretty good to be honest and resonable cost wise too

The best current tyre imo is the HANKOOK VENTUS EVO V12, I have had the others mentioned, as well as F1 etc, and they are all outclassed by a long long way by the hankook, this is what I have on the gf's astra(205/50x15) and the cossie(225/45x17, and 235/45x17) even though I've not even got a set of 17" yet for the cossie I have the tyres.
Very quiet, long lasting, comfy, mega stable, grip is awsome wet or dry, read the Sepang test where they kept up within 2 seconds of full on race tyres, for over 300 miles of track use and were still legal afterwards!!

+1 for the hancooks although i couldn't find the v12's in my size so i went for the s1 which is a different pattern but i would guess a similar compound.
cant compare them to toyos but they are definately better than the fk452's i had on before and i really liked the fk 452's

Parada 2's were ace on my FRP, Bridgestone RE02's were ok as were Dunlop SP's. The 170 currently has Zero Neros which have surprised me this winter by being rather good, I thought they were going to be pants.

thanks for all your input, but i should have said in the first place that the purpose of asking about mid-range tyres is that they are going on my missuses car, so the work that they will be doing is, the school run, the shop run and occasional drive out to see her mother which is across country.
i dont want to go super cheap and get budget indian tyres, but there again i dont want to spending more than £300(fitted)for a set. just a half decent tyre that would be good, especially when the weather turns and good enough for me when i drive it occasionally.
