Default engine problems

hi all first post wonder if anyone can help
i have recently bought a focus petrol 1.6 ti -vct engine a 55 reg
this vehicle seem to have a few problems it seems to have a noisy engine on starting seems almost old style tappety cant be as no hyd lifters fitted
its ok when warm but is no speed machine
seems needs a boot to get shifting wonder if this is the norm not happy with this mk2 focus
it also produces a funny rattle on start up when warm last about one second funny noise -timing out ?
wonder if anyone else has had these issues
i have changed engine oil + filter -small filter size?ford oil fitted5/30
also changed plugs -ford plugs
any help advice very much appreciated thanks- ibiza

Do you know the history of the car, these engines do not take kindly to neglect and will explain the tapping your getting, also if someone has used the wrong oil this can cause problems the correct oil is what you have replenished with.

It really is difficult to know what you quantify as slow, maybe you are expecting to much?

From experience the MK1 is fairly nippy don't see why the 2 should be any different.

That rattely noise is also common you talk of.
