Default focus speedo

Hi, I have a 1999 1.8 ford focus, the speedometer stops working occasionally and when this happens the engine runs a bit rough, when the speedo starts again the engine picks up, any ideas please?

Exactly the same thing happening to mine, My mechanic friend said it's prob the transducer which he said will be about ?75 odd, iff not then the actual speedo ?115 odd i think. ECU check should tell you.

Its the VSS (vehicle speed sensor), quite a common problem. Would recommend replacing asap as when speedo drops and engine cuts then no power steering or brakes.

^^As above^^

It's a common problem, if you're lucky it's an easy fix but quite a few people have had nightmares with it as the securing pins have snapped or seized and then it becomes a gearbox off job!
