Pride of Stella

Driving home from work, 5th gear cruising at about 80-90, shifted down to 4th to exit north circ, couldnt get into fourth gear , neither 3rd or 2nd. Tried fifth again went in fine. At this point i managed to yank it into 4th, as i let go off the clutch & accelerated car didnt rev up. Next thing i know, the loudest fooking bangs ive ever heard with a whole bunch of smoke started flying out of my exhaust . After that first thing a did was STOP & then engine just cut out. Legged it outside & opened the engine bay (by the way the whole fooking area stunk of burn) didnt notice anything wrong to the eye, but didnt notice turbo was glowing alot more then normal. Got in tried to start it & it started, engine light is on know, if i accelerate i can hear bits being thrown into the exhaust , goes into gear but doing so give you a sore arm, thats how stiff it is. I'm so pissed. Call garage up and waiting for them to pic it up. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know what went wrong?
