ford focus 1.6 slow
ive just bought a focus lxi 1.6 zetec
its really slow
not slow as in just cos its a 1.6, but its really lazy, it takes AGES to get above 3000rpm in any gear and then it starts moving, and shifting up it will go down to 1800rpm.
for instance 50mph in 5th on flat = 1900rpm, my old 1.4 golf 8v would be around 2krpm and if u dropped a gear the revs would raise and the car would accelerate....in the focus you do that the revs go up by about 200rpm and you have tons of lag..........and no turbo.
should i check sparkplugs or could it be anything else ?
i dont want to "mod" the car i want to keep it standard.
thanks!

PassionFord Post Whore!!
It's mechanically impossible for the revs to drop 1800 on an up change and only rise by 200 on a down change, even if the clutch was going it wouldn't perform like that.
If you are in 5th at 50mph you are changing gear way too early, (granny mode) you've already said it starts moving at 3000rpm , why change up?
I didn't drive mine with the 1.6 in but from what I've read they rev quite high.
If it's as bad as you say why don't you drop 2 gears then it'll rev.
