Default 2009 TDCI 1.6 odd problems due to duff temperature sensor

I am pretty sure all the odd engine problems I'm getting are down to a duff temperature sensor, or more specifically, the wires going to it.

I've had a temp gauge with a mind on it's own so today i hooked up my laptop and monitored the reported temp while waggling the wire to the temp sensor and low and behold, all sorts of readings along with changes in the engine and the cooling fans going mad too.

So is it possible to get a new connector to fit?

Turns out the wire had fractured inside the insulation about an inch away from the temp sensor connector... possibly due to vibration or maybe damage to the insulation allowing moisture to get in.

The connectors can actually be dismantled if you are careful.

I took the connector to bits, cut the wire at the break, soldered it, sleeved it and rebuilt the connector.

Temp gauge is perfect and the motor runs perfect now too!

Cost: £0 plus a bit of swearing when I dropped a bit down onto the undertray and had to take the wheel off to find it...
